CAPSTRANS CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS 2003Latest conferences and workshops On 19-22 August 2003 CAPSTRANS staff attended the Third International Conference of Asian Scholars at the National University of Singapore. Dr Pam Nilan convened a panel, “Labour, Work and Social Change in Asia”. For more information visit the conference home page: ICAS3: 3rd International Conference of Asian Scholars On 11-12 August, SEARC the Southeast Asia Research Centre of the City University of Hong Kong and CAPSTRANS held a workshop on Migration, Ethnicity and Workforce Segmentation in the Asia-Pacific. Associate Professor Adrian Vickers and Professor Ken Young co-ordinated the workshop. The papers looked at a range of issues from general surveys of the major problems, to case studies of Thai workers in Hong Kong, the plight of Indonesian women involved in the labour trade, and maids in Taiwan. On 10-11 April 2003, the Onati International Institute for the Sociology of Law held a workshop on “Globalisation and Law in Asia: From the Asian Crisis to September 11, 2001” at the Institute in Onati, Spain. This was convened by CAPSTRANS Director Professor Christoph Antons, together with Professor Volkmar Gessner of the University of Bremen. |
