The Asia-Pacific Histories group explores social, cultural and political transformations within the Asia-Pacific region with an emphasis on comparative and transnational approaches to historical studies. We take the Asia-Pacific region to include Asia, Australia and the Pacific. Our research is concerned with the colonial and post-colonial periods, and we bring together historians to consider a range of inter-related themes including:

  • migrations and mobility
  • nationalisms and diasporas
  • comparative colonialism
  • conflict
  • labour,
  • environmental and urban history
  • gender
