CAPSTRANS Research Degrees

Master of Arts - Research

For candidates holding a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree or equivalent (a degree which includes a significant research training component), the Master of Arts - Research is a research-only degree. Students work with a supervisor to complete a substantial research thesis (40,000 - 50,000 words). Candidates without previous research training will normally undertake 24 credit points of coursework before they start working on the thesis.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

PhDs are taken as pure research dissertations (theses). CAPSTRANS Staff jointly supervise topics within our broad range of research programs. CAPSTRANS PhD students have the opportunity to be part of research teams working on applied and theoretical issues, and are part of the dynamic seminar program. The PhD is normally completed within 3-4 years full-time study (or part-time equivalent).

Doing a research degree in CAPSTRANS

CAPSTRANS' research activities are organized under a number of interlinked research programs. All prospective students are encouraged to review our research programs in order to identify potential research projects that they would like to be associated with.

Finding a Supervisor

You should also visit our staff page to identify potential supervisors who will assist you with your project. We encourage you to contact staff via email or telephone to discuss your research project before you apply.
