This is a multi-disciplinary group (covering literature, politics, environmental studies, education, history, economics, health, indigenous studies, etc.) and will run occasional seminars, host visits from New Zealand, and develop collaborative trans-Tasman research links.
An inaugural workshop will be held on Friday September 25th. The plenary address will be given by Prof Lydia Wevers, Director of the Stout Research Centre, Wellington, and various members of UoW will speak on their research.

CAPSTRANS Special 10th Anniversary Research Seeding Grants
Old and new members of CAPSTRANS are invited to apply for seed funding for new research projects. The aim of the grants is to develop projects and research groups with potential to enhance the profile of the new directions CAPSTRANS is taking and to generate research outcomes such as external grant applications, significant publications and collaborations (inter-faculty, national, international).
Proposals should be submitted in the format outlined in the application form below by 30th June to Leonie Clement leoniec@uow.edu.au. The maximum amount of the grant will not normally exceed $5000. Preference will be given to team applications which clearly demonstrate how this project/activity will lead to further research outcomes relevant for CAPSTRANS.
For further information on the new direction of CAPSTRANS please contact the Associate Professor Tim Scrase, Director.
CAPSTRANS Researcher Elected President of International Association - News Release (24 June 2009)
In a major career achievement, at its recent 9th International conference held in Bali, Indonesia, CAPSTRANS researcher, and Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Dr Ruchira Ganguly-Scrase was last week elected President of the Asia Pacific Sociological Association (APSA). Dr Ganguly-Scrase was a founding member and former Treasurer of APSA, which formed in 1996. The association brings together sociologists from the region, holds regular conferences and other professional events, and promotes the teaching and studying of sociology. APSA is an official member organisation of the International Sociological Association (ISA). Over the past 15 years, Dr Ganguly-Scrase has tirelessly devoted her time and energy to building the profile of APSA by building its membership, organising conference panels, and participating in all its conferences. It was fitting that her professional efforts be recognised and she be elected the APSA president, the first woman to hold this esteemed position in the association’s relatively short history.
