Research program: Globalisation and International Development

Drastic social transformation has been experienced in China since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Rapid economic development has been made since 1978, which makes China into one of the most powerful engines of the global economy. Since the end of the 1970s, “reform and opening-up” becomes one of the most important national policies, which improves and promotes the fast development of the Chinese economy. This PhD research will examine social impacts of the economic transformation and economic development in China since 1978 from a multidisciplinary perspective: a philosophical, sociological and economic perspective. This PhD research will analyse impact of transformation on living status of aged people in rural China and impact of transformation on the education of rural-urban immigrants in China. This PhD research also looks at the collectivism in transformation in China and its influence in the social transformation in China.
