privatization of water and the socio-cultural and political implications for poor women in developing countries: cambodia and west bengal as comparative case studiesMary ScottResearch program: Globalisation and International Development My research will aim to identify the processes involved in defining water as a commodity and the implications of water privatization for some women in developing countries. The differential effects of class, caste, ethnicity and culture on Cambodian and West Bengali women in gaining access to clean water, development opportunities, and social justice will underpin my analysis. This comparative study of West Bengali and Cambodian women's development opportunities and their relationship with water will assist in the identification of any impacts of water privatization.
